Research Interests

Climate change and other natural crises of our time are prompting a rethink among various disciplines of science and engineering. Consequently, the concept of sustainability has been stressed in recent years to innovate, design and manufacture products having minimal impact on the environment. In this regard, my group is involved in conducting research activities pertaining to Sustainable Design and Manufacturing and Sustainable Innovations. Another area of research, with significant influence on sustainability, is the use of severe-plastic-deformation processes (SPDs) to Synthesize Nano-crystalline Materials for aerospace, automotive, marine and bio-medical industries. These "nano-materials" have enhanced properties that would aid in prolonging product-life. I am also continuing work on modeling Traditional Manufacturing Processes through research utilizing both fundamental physics and extensive experimental work. Such work, which includes prediction of the self-excited vibratory phenomenon "Chatter", facilitates productivity improvement as well as paving the way to newer energy-efficient manufacturing processes to combat the influence of climate-change. Last but not least, I am also interested in innovative applications of traditional manufacturing processes in areas such as Bio-medical Engineering.
