Pioneering Engineering Design in India
Established in 2006, the Department of Engineering Design at IIT Madras is the first of its kind in India and the sixteenth department to be set up at the Institute.
The Department provides much-needed leadership in engineering design and offers dual-degree programmes with specialisations in Automotive Engineering, Biomedical Design, Robotics, and Electric Vehicles.
"The mission of the programme is to make IIT Madras a global centre of excellence in Engineering Design."
ED is the only interdisciplinary department in India with a specific focus on both form design and functional design, with domain expertise across automotive, biomedical, and robotic systems.
