Dr. Atriya Biswas 

Assistant Professor

Dr. Atriya Biswas joined IIT Madras, Engineering Design department in July 2024. He is leading the SMART lab in IIT Madras, focusing on intelligent and advanced research on powertrain electrification. Prior to joining IIT Madras, Dr. Biswas was at McMaster Automotive Resource Center (MARC) from 2017 to 2024 during his PhD and Post-doc research. Dr. Biswas received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Engineering, Science, and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, India in 2010. He earned his M.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India in 2014. He was employed at General Motors Technical Center, Bangalore, India as a senior engineer from 2014 to 2017. His current research interests include articulation of advanced energy management systems for electrified, connected, and autonomous vehicles, battery SOx estimation, optimal design of electrified powertrain for various vehicles, zero-emission trucking, and intelligent transportation system. He gives special attention on articulation of real-time optimal control with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and deep reinforcement learning (RL)
