The Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) supported by the Ministry of Human Resource
Development (MHRD) Government of India through All India Council for Technical
education (AICTE) aims at developing better teaching capabilities within the
country. The main vehicle of this program is the development of curriculum
and training of the teachers for the same. The present course titled “Rapid
Product Development” is being organized at Department of Mechanical
Engineering, Indian
Due to the requirement of better quality of products and the pressing time
constraints, the need for evaluating all feasible design alternatives with least
cost and time is required for a sustainable product development in the current
era. Computer aided design; manufacturing and analysis technologies provide a
valuable resource tool for the futuristic design. Further recent advances in
technologies like reverse engineering, rapid prototyping and tooling are
increasingly enabling fast, inexpensive ways to create parts directly from
computer aided design models. It is promising in that way that if these
technologies are given there due significance in the engineering curriculum the
impact will be revolutionizing for the Indian industries. The purpose of this
short term course is sharing the experience of the experts in this area with the
participants and encouraging them to introduce these technologies as part of
their engineering curriculum.
The short-term course aims at
familiarizing the participants on modern technologies & associated equipments as
well as software for rapid product development in large-scale industries like
automobile, aerospace, research institution like defense, space and small-scale
industries and other application fields like biomedical, art and archeology. The
facilities at IITG will be used for demonstrating recent techniques in product
development like reverse engineering (RE), rapid prototyping (RP), rapid tooling
(RT) for various applications. APSOM INFOTEX Ltd.
This proceeding contains the course materials for the short term course prepared by the Faculty members of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Design, IIT Guwahati, resource persons from other premier institution and industry.
