Course syllabus (subjected to minor changes)
- Introduction to 3D modeling, Reconstruction and computer modeling of a 3D model from given 2D views.
- Introduction to specifications like fits and tolerances, surface finish, welding symbols,
selection of standard components like bolts, nuts, screws, keys etc.
- 3D computer modeling and assembly: Introduction to assembly constraints. Joints - Knuckle joint, Spigot, Cotter joints; Couplings- simple, muff, flange coupling, Oldham's coupling, universal Coupling; I.C. Engine parts - piston, connecting rod, cross head & crankshaft.; Components of Lathe/Milling machine. Detailed manufacturing drawing
Problems for each class will be posted couple of hours before the start of the class. Look at the course Moodle page for problems.
Requirements
Knowledge of Engineering drawing fundamentals is a prerequisite. As the course
on engineering drawing is a core subject for the students, this course starts
with the assumption that the students have knowledge on I/III angle projection,
sectional views etc. Typically, there will be a workshop in Autodesk Inventor during the first week of the semester to provide a jump start to this course.
Typical Grading Policy (Subjected to Minor changes)
- In-Class Assignments - 30 marks
- Mid semester - 30 marks
- End Semester - 40 marks
Attendance Policy
- All classes have to be attended. Student(s) missing a lab class not only lose attendance but also the evaluation done for the class.
- Absent for medical reason should be supported by medical certificate from appropriate authority.
