Road Safety Hackathon – ADAS

Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS) at IIT Madras is organising a Hackathon to develop India specific Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) products to improve road safety. If you are a student or a tech Start-up who is concerned with improving road safety conditions in India, grab the opportunity to make a difference.

As per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) report of year 2016, 84% of road crashes are due to driver negligence.. Although the vehicle manufacturers have ventured to reduce crashes by assisting the drivers with use of technological solutions through ADAS products, the challenge here is to develop ‘ADAS’ products to address the driver behavior exhibited in India and accident scenarios given below but not limited to the following::

  • Risky or unsafe overtaking
  • Speed limit violations
  • Rash driving
  • Drunken driving
  • Two-wheeler fall/accidents
  • Two-wheeler skidding/instabilty
  • Tyre-burst

The contestants shall present their ideas through a Concept Note (Word Document) containing the following:

  • Title of the work
  • Working methodology (not to exceed 1,000 words)
  • Technology to be used
  • Process flow
  • Estimated cost structure
  • Support required

The solutions developed by the interested entities will be used to improve Road Safety in the country.

Eligibility
  • Students (with faculty mentors if required)
  • Tech Startups

Timelines

Last date for submission of concept Note is 8 May 2023.
