Workshop Objectives

Human Factors Engineering is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among human beings and other elements of a system. It applies theory, principles, data and methods to design, in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance. Ergonomists contribute to the design and evaluation of tasks, jobs, products, environments and systems in order to make them compatible with the needs, abilities and limitations of people.

In a developing country like India where large numbers of construction activities are going on with diverse and complex nature, the task of protecting safety and health of workers is enormous. Utilizing the principles of human factors will help to enhance system productivity without compromising on the safety and well-being.

Construction is one of the sectors where high risks are involved wherein prompt and practical safety measures are to be practiced constantly. The occupational safety and health in construction industries is achieved through the combined efforts of management, employers, contractors and employees. The Government, employers, employees and society expect more sense of responsibility among all concerned in construction activities to ensure safe and healthy work environment. Keeping this in view, this training programme has been designed to discuss various Safety and Health issues in construction industries.
