Welcome to the website of Professor Atriya Biswas’s research group—Sustainable Mobility and Advanced Research on Transportation (SMART) Laboratory—at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Chennai, India, one of the Indian’s leading academic research laboratory in transportation electrification and intelligent mobility focused on advancing sustainable energy-efficient solutions for electrified powertrains, AI&ML-based battery SOx prediction, energy management systems, connected vehicles, zero-emission freight, and autonomous systems.

Dr. Atriya BiswasÂ
Assistant Professor
Dr. Atriya Biswas joined IIT Madras, Engineering Design department in July 2024. He is leading the SMART lab in IIT Madras, focusing on intelligent and advanced research on powertrain electrification. Prior to joining IIT Madras, Dr. Biswas was at McMaster Automotive Resource Center (MARC).

Pankaj Bhardwaj
Dua-degree Student
Pankaj is a final-year dual-degree student pursuing his M.Tech in Cyber-Physical Systems. His current research, conducted in the Smart Lab under the guidance of Prof. Atriya Biswas, focuses on real-time traffic prediction and energy optimization for autonomous vehicles using advanced computer vision techniques. Prior to this, he completed an internship with Bosch Research and Development.

Namaswi Chetana Parsa
Fourth Year Undergraduate
Namaswi is a fourth-year student in the department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras. She has worked for two years in the field of power electronics and web development at Avishkar Hyperloop, IIT Madras and as a Data analyst Intern at Bosch India PVt. Ltd. Being interested in the field of mechatronics and automotive controls, she is currently working on optimal architecture design and energy management system of hybrid electric motorcycles for the Indian market.Â
